Held for the second year at the InterContinental on London’s Park Lane, the event was hosted by TV actor and presenter Alexis Conran, with opening remarks from Digital Printer editor Michael Walker, and was a welcome get-together for the industry to meet, network and celebrate success in challenging times.

Print4UK’s winning entry was the Sammy Satsuma series of personalised recipe books for children that are designed to encourage healthy eating habits. The child’s name and other attributes are incorporated into a personalised book, ordered online and composed using Infigo software, before being printed on an HP Indigo sheet-fed press.

The Digitally Printed Textiles award, brand new for 2021, will encompass the entirety of décor, fabric and garment print, so the winning entry could be almost anything, provided it’s been digitally printed. When choosing the winner the judges will be looking for evidence of how digital printing on textiles has created new opportunities or solved existing challenges. They’ll also be taking into account fitness for purpose, quality and sustainability.

Given how varied the sector is, entrants won’t need to submit finished products except for smaller items such as shirts, bags or cushions. For anything larger swatches or samples produced the same way on the same materials will be accepted, along with high quality still photography and/or video of the finished product. Supporting evidence of commercial success/client satisfaction should be provided, where possible.

The award will be presented, along with 15 others that run the entire gamut of digital printing, at a ceremony on 4 November at the Marriott London Grosvenor Square. One winner from amongst those 16 will also be crowned Supreme winner of the entire event, perhaps it will be the textiles entry!

The Digital Printer Awards are a celebration of everything that is best about our industry, a chance to showcase innovation and technologies as well as to celebrate quality and effectiveness across all areas of digital print. But here at Digital Printer we are particularly keen to showcase those companies going the extra mile to protect the planet.

Last year the prize was claimed by Brighton-based Generation Press, which the judges recognised for its exceptional work around recycling and employee schemes, with the fourth generation printer being applauded for its ‘outstanding commitment to the environment in a closely contested category.’

With a record number of companies entering the 2016 Digital Printer Awards, the panel of judges faced a tough challenge identifying the crème de la crème of UK digital printing prowess.

Earlier this week an expert panel of print professionals gathered to deliberate on who was worthy of a win in the 16 categories of this year’s awards. Full details of the nominees will be published online soon, and will also be covered in the October issue of Digital Printer.

The quickest way to discover the winner of each category, and the recipient of the ultimate accolade – the Supreme Award, sponsored by Premier Digital, will be to attend the awards on Thursday 10 November at the Marriott London, Grosvenor Square, where Matt Le Tissier will be handing out the prizes. The former Ashes-winning England captain will host the event on 12 November at the Marriott London Grosvenor Square Hotel. Since retiring from playing the game he graced so memorably, he has become a distinguished cricket commentator and broadcaster, most recently with Sky Sports, noted for his dry wit and wry observations.

A sublime if mercurial left-handed batsman, David played 117 Test matches for England, scoring 8231 runs at an average of 44.25, and 114 One Day Internationals, scoring 3170 runs. He retired from international cricket in 1993 and was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009.

Will Greenwood MBE, England Rugby World Cup winner, has been announced as the host of the Digital Printer Awards, which will be held at the Marriott London Grosvenor Square on 2 October.

Having played for the Leicester Tigers and Harlequins, Mr Greenwood was also an integral member of the team that won the World Cup in Australia in 2003. Now retired from the professional game, he works as a sports pundit for Sky Sports and writes a regular column in The Telegraph.

In his nine year career, Mr Greenwood earned 55 caps and scored 30 tries, as he established his role as a midfield creator. He played in British Lions tours of South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, and scored a hat trick against Wales in the Six Nations championships.

Today a motivational speaker, he combines his knowledge of business with his sportsman’s determination to win and offers an inspiring guide to achieving success. His topics include leadership, teamwork, attitude and the importance of self belief. He said, ‘Trust, believe and commit. It was always at the heart of what I tried to achieve and for me it is the mark of a great career, no matter who you are or where you play. I stand by that view today, whether I am writing for The Telegraph, about to go on TV for Sky or stand up and give an after dinner speech. Put your heart and soul in to it, and the rest will follow.’
