Roland DG has provided artwork to the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, brightening treatment rooms and waiting areas using its TrueVis AP-640 resin printer.

As part of the partnership with The Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity, Roland DG has printed and applied printed artwork, created by designer Emily Twomey, for use within three treatment rooms and the waiting area of the Neurophysiology Department.

Anna Shepherd, deputy director for The Grand Appeal, said, ‘When Roland DG approached us with the offer to makeover spaces in our hospital, we couldn’t have said ‘yes’ faster! Bringing colour and light into the lives of unwell children will make such a difference in what can be dark times.’

It is suggested that individuals spend 80-90% of their time indoors where pollutant levels are said to be higher than those found outside, with this time heightened for those spending time in hospital. This is a situation Roland DG has aimed to address with its TrueVis AP-640. The machine is a water-based resin/latex printer, suitable for indoor applications in sensitive environments such as hospitals and schools. The TrueVis resin inks are Greenguard Gold certified, meaning they meet standards of low chemical emissions.

The printer also has a concentrated colour pigmentation to allow heavier saturation than conventional resin inks for impact on applications including paper, fabric, canvas, wallpaper, non-PVC materials. Additionally, the True Rich Colour preset is described to take advantage of the high colour saturation of new TrueVis Ink to maximise vibrancy.

Stephen Davis, marketing director EMEA and managing director for UK and Ireland commented, ‘We understand the importance of colour for children, particularly in aiding those who are unwell or recovering, and we wanted to help make a difference in any way we could. We’re always looking for new opportunities to implement our technology to create real impact, so to be able to give to such a worthwhile cause has been incredibly rewarding.’

Architectural signage company Signbox has used its duo of HP Latex 800W printers to produce a range of wall and ceiling graphics for the visitor experience at 22 Bishopsgate in London.

The company began working with Multiplex, the construction company behind 22 Bishopsgate, back in 2019, producing a range of graphics and wayfinding signs for the 65-floor building.

Among the applications delivered by Signbox on the 22 Bishopsgate project were experiential wall and ceiling graphics, installed in September 2023 at the entrance to the site’s public viewing experience.

The entrance to Horizon 22 is now decorated with graphics printed in-house at Signbox on a pair of HP Latex 800W printers which were installed in the summer of 2023 by HP reseller Colyer.

Using the HP Latex 800W machines is said to not only ensure a high-quality print on all graphics but also offer a sustainable element to the project, given that all HP Latex printers use HP Latex ink, which is claimed to be significantly kinder to the environment than solvent, eco-solvent, and UV inks.

The reliability of the HP Latex 800W printers and their ability to deliver high quality, accurate prints, meant Signbox was able to deliver and install the graphics on time for the client.

Greg Bailey, senior project manager of Signbox said, ‘We achieved all our self-imposed KPI targets set out at the start of the project and completed our works snag-free at the point of handover.

‘Due to the dynamic nature of the project, it required us to be hyper agile, reacting to changes in the design of the built environment as the project progressed. We managed to achieve all client variations and deliver these within the main project period.

‘The final finishing detail of our work is outstanding; this was the opinion of the client team as well as ourselves.’

The project also won gold in the Interior Décor category at the 2024 UK Sign Awards.

Canon has launched a new series of 7-colour ImagePrograf GP large format printers for both commercial and in-house print service providers.

Mathew Faulkner, EMEA director, Canon Europe, commented, ‘With the launch of the new ImagePrograf GP series, we’re addressing the needs of the high-end, premium poster market.’

The new series comprises three models: the 1524mm ImagePrograf GP-6600S, 1118mm GP-4600S, and the 610mm GP-2600S.

Combined with a new pigment ink set, Lucia Pro II, the new series can print A0 size posters on uncoated paper in as little as 48 seconds and is claimed to provide an expanded gamut of vibrant and accurately reproduced colours, together with greater image durability.

The additional colours include orange, which reproduces more vivid, eye-catching colours, and grey, which smoothly reproduces skin tones. Mr Faulkner stated the ImagePrograf Pro delivers ‘outstanding Pantone coverage for more accurate corporate colour reproducibility,’ and according to Canon the series accurately hits 96% of the Pantone formula guide sample book.

Canon has also looked to become more environmentally friendly. It explains that the new ImagePrograf GP series uses nearly 90% less polystyrene foam for the GP-4600S than its predecessor along with reduced power consumption using 94W or less during operation.

While the dual roll capability allows the user to automatically switch from printing on matte to gloss paper without interrupting the workflow.

Mr Faulkner also stated, ‘any output printed on the new ImagePrograf GP devices will be both very scratch and light-resistant, helping to preserve its longevity and value.

‘And with the improved media handling and increased automation of the series, we’ve also made it more productive and easier to use.’

The SwissQprint production team has celebrated a special milestone at the company’s headquarters in Switzerland, with the sale of the 1000th Nyala UV flatbed printer.

The Nyala was launched in 2012 and according to SwissQprint has been the best-selling model in its category for eight consecutive years. The company characterises the printer as ‘the symbiosis of premium print quality, multifunctionality and efficiency.’ Due to its print bed dimensions and modularity, the Nyala offers considerable scope in terms of applications and formats that it can handle. Carmen Eicher, chief sales and marketing officer at SwissQprint commented, ‘our customers also appreciate the high system availability and low energy consumption.’

SwissQprint users configure their printer according to present needs, and can expand and change the configuration later on. Christof Lüchinger, production manager at SwissQprint said, ‘Right from the start, practically every customer has ordered the roll-to-roll option and thus, so to speak, gets two printers in one.’

Other add-ons include the dual roll option, the board option for panels up to four metres long, the glass option and the Rob loading and unloading robot for unmanned shifts. The Nyala has nine configurable colour channels, so in addition to CMYK there is capacity for light colours, white, effect varnish, orange, neon and a primer.
