Albert Basse Associates (ABA) of Stoughton in the US state of Massachusetts, has invested in a Durst P5 350 HS as the nonagenarian business seeks to cement its legacy and grow further in the run-up to its centenary.

Founded in 1928, ABA is one of the longest continually operating, family-owned, large format digital and screen printers in the US. The company produces a wide range of products covering every category of standard and custom graphic display, signage and industrial applications, including point of sale, decals, banners, signs and posters, door and window clings, floor graphics, etc.

ABA utilises both digital and screen printing technologies. In terms of digital, equipment from swissQprint, Seiko, Epson and Xerox sit on its factory floor. To continue growing and meet the changing needs of customers, Albert ‘Chip’ Basse III, president of ABA and his team knew exactly what they needed, stating, ‘Our goal was to improve our digital quality, increase overall capacity, increase our size capabilities and improve output speeds.’

These requirements led ABA to the Durst P5 350 HS.  This high-performance press is an all-in-one hybrid option for roll and board media, with a printing width of up to 3.5m and output of up to 650sqm/h. ABA is also using Durst Workflow software for pre-press automation and is implementing the Durst Lift ERP.

Larry D’Amico, director of sales, labels, flexible packaging and fabric at Durst US, commented, ‘It’s important to look at a business today and see what it will be in the next years and decades to come. We are pleased ABA has chosen Durst as a partner for its future. Durst technology will continue their long legacy of quality and customer satisfaction, while enabling them to grow into different markets.’

Mr Basse continued, ‘The press has been a real game changer and has opened up markets and volume that we could not have achieved otherwise. Due to size and speed constraints in the past, we had to pass up many opportunities with existing and new accounts. With the P5, we are now able to offer our clients improved quality and larger size output, and also improved lead times and turnaround. Ease of use, quick setups, incredible quality and performance.

‘As our needs grow, we expect to rely on Durst to help us grow with new equipment and software solutions.’

UK-headquartered global design and production agency B_RD has set its sights on growth driven by ‘planet friendly’ print technology, following a double HP Latex printer installation in the UK.

Founded in 2016, B_RD focuses on creativity, production, logistics and installation on retail, event and hospitality projects. Working with clients throughout the entire process, from the initial concept to the final delivery of the project, B_RD is committed to offering customers a wide range of production options. With the demand for sustainable print among clients on the rise, B_RD has recently updated its printing technology with two HP Latex printers said to offer ‘more planet friendly technology’.

Company founder and CEO Ben Needham noted that this double investment means B_RD is now in a position to win work within its competitors’ group, as well as expand into higher volume distribution. One example of this is that the agency is now working more in the experiential production industry as the HP printers also help with the 3D side of its business.

Following the success of this investment, B_RD now has plans to establish a similar setup at its other locations around the world to support growth across the wider business.

‘We are delighted to be partnering with HP as our print supplier and we have ambitious plans for the future for replicating what we have set up in the UK across the US, Europe and Dubai in the Middle East,’ Mr Needham concluded.

Contiweb, a specialist manufacturer of web-handling equipment and provider of integrated technical solutions for web offset printing, web inkjet printing and packaging production, has announced that Canon Solutions America’s Production Print Solutions division has signed a reseller agreement to supply the Contiweb Digital Fluid Applicator (DFA-560) to the US market.

In cooperation with Contiweb, Canon Solutions America evaluated the DFA-560 in its South Florida Customer Innovation Center, for use on the Canon ProStream 1800 inkjet web press. The DFA-560 serves as an in-line remoisturiser for the ProStream and will be made available to customers who require this technology.

The Contiweb DFA-560 is a stand-alone fluid applicator that uses tap water and a surfactant for intelligent remoisturising of paper that is processed through an inkjet web press. It offers a water-only or water plus silicone substrate mixing and application system. Precise remoisturising is obtained by individually controlling the remoisturising process for each side of the paper. This process helps enable increased runnability of lightweight paper applications which require post-process finishing. Optionally, the DFA-560 can also apply silicone, which helps stabilise the paper after printing, especially for heavy substrates which have heavy ink loads. This maximises output quality prior to finishing while improving the overall user experience.

Precise remoistening with the Contiweb DFA-560 optimises output for finishing

Vice president of marketing at Canon America Ed Jansen said, ‘Our customers are under pressure to meet short, demanding deadlines, which means continuous production is a must, often with reduced numbers of operators.

‘The Canon ProStream delivers exceptional productivity and print quality, and we are excited to partner with Contiweb and its DFA-560 to provide an in-line production remoisturising solution. This further solidifes our customers’ ability to uphold excellent print quality with uniformity and reproducible results over thousands of prints.’

Sales director at Contiweb Robert Bosman said, ‘Contiweb has a long heritage with fluid application in web offset and has successfully applied this knowledge to web-fed inkjet over the last few years. Following the success of this product in Europe, we’re delighted to replicate this achievement in the U.S. and our agreement with Canon Solutions America is a big step towards that.’
