Premier, a supplier to the sign and display market, left visitors ‘stirred’ not ‘shaken’, at the Sign & Digital UK 2024 exhibition, the UK’s largest event for signage, print, display, décor, and design.

Over the years, Sign & Digital UK has stood as the epitome of innovation and inspiration for the visual communications sector, and Premier was excited to be part of it, with a track record of past successful shows. Premier returned in 2024 with another eye catching, engaging exhibition stand.

Premier introduced the ‘Display Royale’ and ‘Signage HQ,’ which hosted a variety of materials from their display graphics product range. The ‘Ice Bar’ for example, was adorned in Premier’s premium range of aluminium composite, eTEC ACM 3D, in the striking brushed silver finish. In addition, the backdrop for the iconic Aston Martin DB5 on Premier’s stand, was printed on Drytac Polar Blockout, an opaque printable block out film, suitable for solvent, latex and UV inks.

The demonstration tables and windows were made of clear 5mm and opaque 5mm Plexiglas which allowed space for graphics to be applied and removed. The use of cast acrylic material helped to showcase the products’ high gloss finish, as well as favoured functionalities such as being lighter and stronger than glass. Premier’s overhead signage was produced using Foamalux Light, a foam board with a surface for direct mounting. It’s lightweight too which makes it easier to handle and hang than many other display materials.

For visitors’ eyes only, casino tables had been produced especially for the merchant’s stand, using Ultraboard; the UK manufactured honeycomb board. Naturally, printed samples of eTEC ACM, E-Opaque board and Diplast, took the form of poker chips and playing cards. The stand also boasted a stylish lounge area, which provided a perfect backdrop for networking and socialising and of course, the promotional giveaways made a return.

‘We don’t just attend Sign & Digital UK; we embrace a mission to redefine the norms of the sign and display market,’ said Brad Goldsmith, marketing manager at Premier. ‘Our presence at the show is not just about products; it’s about pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation. We’re creating a spectacle that leaves an indelible mark on the industry.’

The three-day event started on a Sunday for the first time which ensured accessibility for businesses to come and witness the latest products without compromising valuable business time. Another first for show was that it was co-hosted with the Printwear and Promotion show in the neighbouring hall, which allowed the free flow of visitors to experience both exhibitions with the same ticket.

The merging of the two exhibitions provided Premier with the perfect platform to showcase some of the bespoke bags and packaging solutions from sister company WBC (Wine Box Company). A dedicated zone was created on the stand to display a collection of printed, fabric bags, whilst hampers, wine boxes and void fill were displayed in the Ice Bar.

Mr Goldsmith further emphasises Premier’s commitment to supporting the UK industry, stating, ‘Attending events like Sign & Digital UK is our way of giving back to our customers. We believe in the power of collaboration and innovation to drive the industry forward. Our team of experts are always on hand to answer queries and provide tailored advice to address the unique needs of businesses.’

Chesham-based 3 Way Displays has expanded its printing capabilities in the cosmetics and fragrance sectors with the addition of its second SwissQprint Impala flatbed printer.

Established in 2000, 3 Way Displays (3WD) provides print solutions to customers in the beauty and fragrance industries. Specialising in temporary and permanent point-of-sale displays, the company works with clients such as Harrods and Charlotte Tilbury.

In 2017 the business chose a SwissQprint Impala to deliver the detail and precision needed for luxury brands and retail displays. With the machine proving successful for the company’s needs, the 3WD team decided to visit SwissQprint UK’s Bracknell headquarters last year to see a demonstration of the latest Impala. The decision was made to invest in a second machine for installation in February 2024.

Steve Pridham, SwissQprint UK Sales Manager said, ‘Adding a second SwissQprint machine is not only testament to the Impala’s quality, but also reinforces the confidence our customers have in our machines and us as partners.’

The new Impala has a six-colour configuration including CMYK, light magenta, and light cyan, complemented by white and varnish.

The need for precise colour matching and glossy finishes are important for the business. The inclusion of varnish increases resistance to alcohol, scratching and moisture, crucial for the durability of the displays.

Olivia Stroud, 3WD’s sales director explained, ‘Accuracy in colour replication is vital for us. With the Impalas’ capabilities, we’re able to meet the high demands of the sector to produce visually stunning displays that give off a luxury feel.’

Spandex has created a free app that gives customers access to digital colour swatches for thousands of colours from leading materials brands at the touch of a button.

Available in seven languages and tailored to the specific product portfolio of each national sales office, the Spandex ColorBox app features all of Spandex’s brands, including 3M, Avery Dennison, Orafol and ImagePerfect. Products are searchable by range, colour, product number, name or application.

In addition to the collection of colour swatches, the app provides customers with easy access to product information and technical data sheets and connects directly to the Spandex online store for more information about the chosen product or range. It also offers customers a colour match feature, in which the app to find the closest colour match to a users’s photograph of the reference colour within Spandex’s range of vinyls.

‘The Spandex ColorBox app is a valuable business tool for signmakers, graphics producers and wrappers,’ explained Leon Watson, general manager at Spandex UK. ‘Effectively this enables them to carry the full Spandex range of brand swatches in their pocket, making it easier than ever to support conversations with customers about media selection.

‘The range of coloured vinyls is expanding continuously and physical swatches quickly become outdated, while the Spandex ColorBox app will be updated monthly to ensure it reflects the very latest product portfolio. Instant access to product specifications will help customers confidently choose media that is fit for purpose, and with ‘click to buy’ access to the Spandex online shop, we’re offering our busy customers unique functionality that will help to minimise the time they spend selecting and buying vinyl products.’
