LegoDigit has expanded its HP product portfolio with the recent installation of a HP Indigo 15K B2 sheet-fed press and HP PageWide Advantage 2200 web-fed inkjet press installed in 2023.

Based in Lavis in the province of Trento, Italy, book manufacturer LegoDigit was founded in 2013 and produces books for customers across Italy.

LegoDigit has claimed to offer customers a ‘competitive edge’ in terms of productivity, efficiency and print quality due to HP’s integrated finishing solutions. The HP Indigo 15K can print on a range of media, with seven ink stations, including white inks and Pantone colours.

The versatility of the machines installed is a benefit for the company as it provides a wide range of weights from 40 gsm up to 300 gsm, on both uncoated and coated matt and glossy offset papers.

LegoDigital also notes the improved sustainability credentials of the Advantage 2200, which includes HP’s High Efficiency Drying (HED) system, which reduces energy consumption, recirculating approximately 80% of the air heated during the drying process.

Alessandro Leto, CEO of LegoDigit, stated, ‘Thanks to HP technology we have had the opportunity to grow in terms of productivity, quality, and efficiency, thus optimising the effectiveness of our company’s production processes. HP Indigo and PageWide WebPress solutions have been enabling factors in this transformation journey.’

Durst has installed a solar panel plant at its headquarters in Brixen, South Tyrol, Italy.

The initiative is part of the company’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. The solar panel plant has a capacity of 1,569KWp and is expected to generate over 1.7 million KWh of energy annually. This corresponds to approximately more than half of the energy demand of Durst’s Brixen headquarters. The installation consists of 3410 modules, two separate plants and 14 inverters.

The plant will produce 70% of the generated energy for direct self-consumption, while the remaining 30% will be available for feed-in or future storage. The technology used includes power optimisers by Solaredge, and the company claims that these ‘maintain the performance of a series of modules even in the presence of partial shading or pollution.’

‘Following our installation of a solar panel plant at our production site in Lienz/Austria in 2022, we are thrilled to have installed now one of the biggest solar panel plants in South Tyrol at our headquarters in Brixen,’ commented Christoph Gamper, CEO of Durst Group. ‘Our commitment to sustainability is a core value at Durst, and this new installation is a testament to that commitment. We are proud to take this important step towards reducing our carbon footprint and making a positive impact on the environment.’

Reggiani, the industrial textile printing part of EFI, has broken ground on a new textile campus being built to accommodate ongoing growth. The 20,000sqm facility in Comun Nuovo, Italy, is expected to be completed in 2023.

Senior vice president and general manager Adele Genoni said, ‘Not only will this provide us more space to continue our growth, but it will also be a welcoming and sustainable environment for our employees.’

The new facility will include 400kW of solar panel capacity, expected to supply 60% of the facility’s total energy requirements. This means the building will benefit from thermal insulation to ensure a reduction in heating and cooling costs. Numerous skylights in the facility will provide better natural lighting and a reduction in artificial lighting usage. According to EFI, green space on the campus was a priority in the design process, covering an estimated 20% of the total area. The campus will also feature a canteen and gym for employee use.

A 3000sqm demo centre in the new facility will be nearly twice as large as the current EFI Reggiani demo centre in Grassobbio, Italy, presenting EFI Reggiani printers, Mezzera pre- and post-treatment and Jaeggli yarn treatment products. The demo centre will also feature the company’s recently acquired portfolio of Inèdit Rip and workflow software.

EFI Reggiani’s product portfolio has continued to expand, ranging from rotary and flatbed printing machines, to scanning/multi-pass digital printers including the EcoTerra pigment printer shown at Fespa in May/June 2022 and the single-pass Bolt, which EFI has claimed to be the world’s fastest digital textile printer.

Italian book printer Grafica Veneta has increased its digital printing capacity since investing in a Fujifilm JetPress 750S sheet-fed B2 digital press in March 2021.

The company, now partnered with Lake Book of the USA, produces 150 million books a year, with a turnover of €100 million (£85.5 million). The firm was already using a Jet Press 720S for book cover printing, but invested in the 750S after hearing about its faster speeds.

Nicola Franceschi, head of research development at Grafica Veneta, said, ‘When we became aware of the Jet Press 750S – a machine that produces the same quality at faster speeds – we were immediately interested. We evaluated the performance and it was an easy decision to upgrade our digital sheet-fed printing line.’

In early 2021, the business looked to increase the speed at which is could produce high quality book covers.

Mr Franceshci explained, ‘Back in early 2021, as well as partnering with Lake Book, we made another investment in the future of our business improving our digital print capacity. The focus being on short runs – where we could increase the speed without jeopardising the standard of quality we regularly produce.’

Since the purchase, the company reports that printing times for each job have been reduced and is now looking to update the Jet Press 750S even further.

Mr Franceschi added, ‘We’re aware of the High Speed upgrade that is available on the press – so that has the potential to speed things up even further. We’ve worked with Fujifilm for many years. We trust their team and their technology. They’ve helped us expand as a business and we’re always keeping a close eye on what new printing equipment they develop.’

General manager at Fujifilm Graphic Communications Italy Paolo Zerbi said, ‘Producing copies in their millions for some of the biggest publishers in the world, Grafica Veneta knows quality and understands what’s required to make a good impression on its customers. The Jet Press 720S served them very well and we’re delighted with the impact the Jet Press 750S has made in the past year. We look forward to continuing our partnership with them as they continue their growth.’

Operating from a 100,000sqm solar-powered  factory in Trebaseleghe, northern Italy, and with 750 employees, Grafica Veneta’s customer base has been expanding throughout Europe, North Africa and America.

Italian print service provider Rotolito has invested in an HP Indigo 100K digital press, enhancing the company’s flexibility and productivity, whilst reducing lead times.

Founded in 1976, Rotolito started by printing a popular Italian comic. Today, the company is one of the major players in the graphic arts industry in Europe, with operations not only in Italy, but also France, Germany, the UK, Africa, the US and Scandinavia. Across these seven sites, Rotolito deploys technologies for the whole production cycle – from pre-press to bookbinding – to produce a wide range of products, including books, comics, catalogues, magazines, flyers, technical manuals, price lists, guides and diaries. Rotolito’s customers include a range of large and small publishing houses, from a variety of different industries including banks, logistics, communications, fashion and furnishing brands.

Whilst Rotolito began its digital printing journey in 2010, with Europe’s first installation of an HP Web Press T300, its current digital fleet includes an HP PageWide T480 and T360 colour inkjet web press, HP Indigo 15000 and 10000 digital presses. The new HP Indigo 100K will replace Rotolito’s existing HP Indigo 10000.

Installed at Rotolito’s Pioltello headquarters in April 2022, the HP Indigo 100K digital press is a B2-format commercial printing system designed for higher speed and productivity with uninterrupted print jobs. Capable of printing up to 6000 sheets per hour, the HP Indigo 100K can move higher volumes from offset to digital to meet today’s needs, producing a range of commercial applications with ‘outstanding’ print quality and high productivity.

The company is now able to optimising production, in order to overcome production peaks, reduce inventory costs by eliminating the risk of unsold products, and be given the option to manage last minute production request. There is also the ability to produce short runs and create customised products by avoiding stocking up or producing excess copies.

Rotolito also stands to benefit from the use of PrintOS, the print production operating system with web and mobile applications linked to HP printers. Environmental gains are a further benefit cited by Rotolito, such as by printing on-demand.

Emanuele Bandecchi, sales and marketing director at Rotolito, commented, ‘The new HP Indigo 100K, replacing the HP Indigo 1000 0, allows us to increase productivity in printing covers and books using digital sheet-fed technology. Thanks to the high productivity of the new HP Indigo 100K, we will be able to scale the breakeven point compared to offset in printing illustrated books, catalogues, comics and magazines.’

Tech:art, an Italian print service provider founded in 2002, has installed a Fujifilm Acuity Prime 30. The company, which is based in Trofarello, just outside Turin, offers a ‘full service’ from pre-press, through to design, prototyping, packaging and logistics, for customers in both B2B and B2C environments.

The Acuity Prime 30, which arrived last September, has already impressed CEO and general manager Davide Salvo. ‘When the machine was first installed, there were some final calibrations to sort, but we just couldn’t wait to use it so we started running production jobs anyway,’ he said. ‘We were instantly impressed. The productivity of the machine is far beyond what we had expected and exceeds any other machine we have seen before in a similar price bracket.

‘We first heard about the Acuity Prime in the summer of 2021 from a Fujifilm sales contact. We were very impressed by how easy it is to use and the outstanding print quality and productivity it offers. This, along with our confidence in Fujifilm as a brand, ultimately led to the investment decision.

‘We are typically using the machine for interior design applications such as wood, plexiglass, glass and metal as well as signage. We were previously using a competitor machine, but it was proving impossible to print with the quality and speed that we now can achieve with the Acuity Prime 30.’

In other news, Fujifilm has also announced a new strategic partnership with Nautasign, intended to boost Acuity Prime and Acuity Ultra R2 sales in the Benelux region. Nautasign, which has offices in Mechelen, Belgium and Ede in the Netherlands, will now supply both machines in those countries as well as Luxembourg.

Marco Kedde, co-owner of Nautasign, commented, ‘We are very pleased to have partnered with Fujifilm. It’s a huge brand that creates great printers with impressive designs and it has been a pleasure working with the Fujifilm team. The onboarding process was seamless and I look forward to having the machines in our showroom.’

Sappi has announced that over the course of the next two years it is to invest a sum in the ‘low double-digit millions’ in expanding its Centre of Excellence for speciality papers. The investment will help the company expand its production capacity to support further growth in its existing dye sublimation business.

Work is set to commence in the middle of this year, and is scheduled to be completed before the end of 2023. As part of the project Sappi’s mill facility, located in Carmignano, northern Italy, will be expanded, improving lead times, and upgraded into terms of its environmental and sustainability credentials.

The company says that it recognised the importance of sublimation paper for digital transfer printing in 2018. Shortly after the epiphany, the company acquired Cham Paper Group, a Swiss group of companies active in the field of speciality paper and with high-performance mills in Carmignano and Condino, Italy.

The following year saw the company open its Digital Solutions Centre in Carmignano as well as the launch of a range of new products in the field of sublimation printing, including the Transjet Tacky Industrial and the Transjet Drive.

Luis Mata, Sappi’s sales director, Packaging and Digital Solutions, commented, ‘Our sublimation papers are ideal for a variety of products in the fashion, home textile, sportswear, soft signage and hard substrate sectors. They perform exceptionally well with maximum ink transfer and minimum ink consumption. Over the next five years, we see a significant increase in demand for these papers. And this is why we are now expanding our capacities.’

Delta Die Making has appointed C&T Matrix as its sole UK representative for its range of computer numeric control (CNC) machines.

The Italian manufacturer, which was founded in 2015 and is now owned by Quattro Zero SRL, offers a range of CNC machines, all of which are manufactured in Italy. The machines cover waterjet cutting, oscillating knife cutting, sample making, milling/routering and plotting.

The machines can work with a wide range of materials and substrates and, in addition to their ‘extensive list of standard features’, most have a range of optional extras to choose from. Delta believes this enables customers to cover multiple applications through investment in just one single machine.

C&T’s role will be to act as liaison between Delta and its British customers, providing a first point of contact should customers require advice or assistance.

Steve Fear, technical sales die-cutting specialist at C&T, commented on the new arrangement. ‘These Delta CNC machines bring to the market a wide range of automated options, offering customers repeatability, consistency and accuracy,’ he said. ‘UK customers will now have the ability to produce a wider range of products internally and offer more services to their end users – all backed up with the support and knowledge of C&T in the UK.’

Delta provides a full installation service and training package with each purchase, as well as a comprehensive two year warranty, which is then followed up by mechanical, software support and backup.
